(SHELL STRENGTH TEST)
- GENERALLY, PRIOR TO ANY OTHER FORM OF TESTING, A VALVE IS SUBJECTED TO A HYDROSTATIC (SHELL) TEST AT 1.5 TIMES THE VALVE MAXIMUM COLD RATED PRESSURE.
- ASME B16.34 / API 6A ARE USUALLY THE GOVERNING STANDARDS.
- FOR SAFETY REASONS THIS TEST IS ALWAYS CONDUCTED USING WATER SINCE ITS PURPOSE IS TO PROVE THE STRENGTH CAPABILITY OF THE VALVE.
